A former Flying Eagles attacking winger, Abubakar Lawal, is presently on cloud nine after an exceedingly rewarding debut season with Ugandan giants, Vipers FC.

The former Kano Pillars player who joined Vipers in July 2022 from AS Kigali had a torrid time under former coach Beto Binachi but is now flourishing under the new gaffer Alex Isabirye with multiple records to show for his new-found form.

Apart from the historic goal he scored for Vipers in the 1-1 draw with Raja Casablanca in the Champions League group match, the former Kano Pillars and Nasarawa United player was instrumental to his side winning the Ugandan FA Cup on Saturday for a double which earned his team the title of ‘Salongo’ meaning twins.

In a chat with Daily Trust, Lawal said life in Vipers started slowly for him and even as he was faced with so many challenges, he preserved to establish himself in the club.

According to him, his achievements in his first season in Vipers are amazing to him as he has already set over five records which have brought joy to his club and Nigerians resident in Uganda.

“I am proud of what I have achieved in this first season. I am the first player to score for Vipers in the CAF Champions League. This is also the first time for the club to reach the Group Stage of the Champions League,

“This is also the first time that Vipers have successfully defended the league title and the first time that they have won two trophies in the same season. What I have achieved in just one season is amazing,” said the lanky and fleet footed Lawal.

As the Nigerian aims for more records, he must be pleased with his new coach Isabirye who has assured him of a major role in the coming season.
