Nigeria wins first Gold medal at Rio 2016 Paralympics

Nigeria's Ezuruike Roland has claimed first gold medal for the country at the ongoing Rio 2016 Paralympics. He won the men’s 54kg powerlifting event after garnering 200 points to beat China’s Wang Jian, who gained 170 points to settle for the silver medal. Greece’s Bakochristos Dimitrios edged Brazil’s Carra Bruno to the bronze medal despite both finishing on the same points. Roland’s feat has raised Nigeria’s medal haul to two – one gold and a silver medal won earlier on Friday by Latifat Tijani, also in the power lifting event.
