NDLEA seizes 3,107kg drugs, pistol in Adamawa

The Adamawa State command of the NDLEA has seized a total of 3,107.778kg of drugs and locally made pistols.

This was made known to newsmen during a briefing by NDLEA Adamawa State Commander, Femi Samson AgboAlu, on Monday.

NDLEA State Commander said in order to reduce the Drug supply strategy, the Command has arrested over 296 drug offenders comprising of 286 males and 11 females suspects.

Some of the drugs seized were Cannabis Sativa 2,702.167 kg, Tramadol 146.806 kg, Diazepam 36.116 kg, Exol-5 29.676 kg, Pentazocine 124.578 kg, Rohypnol 1.47kg, Codeine based syrup 61.440 kg, Cocaine 0.005 kg, Methaqualone 0.227 kg, Phenobarbitone 2.290 kg, Ammunition 28 RLAOne locally made pistol & Military Camouflage niker.

“Total drug seizures recorded in the period under review is 3,107.778 kg. The 28 RLA, and the locally made pistol, the Military Camouflage niker were transferred to the Nigerian Police, along with the suspects in view of inter-Agency cooperation and synergy,” he said.

He said this year’s theme is a clarion call in addressing transnational drug challenges arising from situations of crisis and protecting the right to health for the most vulnerable, including children and youth; people using drugs, people with drug use disorders; and people who need access to controlled medicine.

“The United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, observed worldwide on June 26, which was originated by the United Nations through Resolution 42/112 of December 7, 1987, thus dedicating June 26 of every year as World Drug Day. ”

“June 26 has remained a landmark date that attracts the gathering of drug control stakeholders to create awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs posed to society and to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drugs.

“Adamawa State will join the rest of the world in commemorating the World Drug Day with a weeklong activities starting with this Press Briefing of today being 20th June 2022; Wednesday 22nd will be for Advocacy Road Walk Against Drugs; Friday for Juma’at prayers, Saturday 25th for Guest Lecture at the 1000 capacity hall of Federal College of Education-Yola; Sunday 26th is the thanksgiving service at the Spiritlife Power Embassy at Karewa Extension – Jimeta. ”

He urged for cooperation and synergy of the public to attend the UN Day activities and report same in both the print and electronic media.
