Nasarawa state government and an NGO, Aids Healthcare Foundation, (AHF) had disclosed that one out of every ten person of reproductive age contract different forms of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) which overburdens the health system.
The Aids Healthcare Foundation, (AHF) in collaboration with Nasarawa State Agency for the Control of Aids (NASACA) during an event to commemorate International Condom Day(ICD) in Lafia proffered ways of achieving reduction of infection, spread and management mechanism including the control of unprepared pregnancy.
An official of the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Liman Usman said the ministry will support initiative geared towards improving on the existing measures.

The Executive Director Nasarawa State Agency for the Control of Aids, (NASACA), Dr. Ruth Yakubu pointed out that, with correct and consistent use of Condom and adequate awareness, the danger of the scourge will be reduced to the lowest level, While an official of AHF, Mr. Taofeek Adeleye said that despite increase awareness, there is still low usage of condoms.
The event was celebrated simultaneously across six states. The theme for the year is “Safer is fun”.
International Condom Day is celebrated on the worldwide on the 13th of February annually.
