The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) on Thursday harped on appropriate sex education for young people in Wurukum, a suburb of Makurdi metropolis in Benue State.
It also inaugurated its first Committee on Age-Appropriate Sexuality Education at the Chief Palace of Angwan-Jukun at Wurukum in Makurdi.

The community is believed to have one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancy, reported incidences of sexual assaults with other forms of child abuse in the state.
AHF-Nigeria Advocacy/Marketing Manager, Steve Aborisade, said the committee would boost knowledge about sex among young people.
He stressed the need to empower youths and women on sexual education to at least reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted diseases, noting that some men who even have sexual affairs with girls young enough to be their daughters should be stopped.
“New cases of HIV/AIDS is more prevalence in the younger generation, because they contact these sexual diseases without even knowing they have it.”
The traditional ruler, Chief Tanko Omale, urged the committee to carry out the assignment given to them diligently as he promised to work with them anytime they need him.
He was worried that the community had experienced many difficulties when it comes to talking to the younger generation on cushioning the behaviour.
A representative of the State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, Obande Idikwu, pledged to partner with AHF in dispensing justice whenever cases involving sexual violence or child molestation arises.
