Wife of the Chairman Kuje Area Council, Hajiya Salamatu Abdullahi Sabo, has called on mothers to encourage their children, especially girls, to acquire education.
Salamatu, who stated this during a sensitisation programme on girl-child and child trafficking in the area on Saturday, said there was need for parents to enrol their children in schools.
“The society can only develop and achieve its vision when the girl-child receive proper education,” she said.
A resource person, Mrs Amina Shuaibu said child trafficking was a crime and disease that had eaten deep into the fabric of society.
She attributed the cause of child trafficking to poverty, push factor, unemployment, peer group pressure and demand for female prostitution.
Shuaibu said mothers should stand against such acts and ensure their children get the best moral discipline.
She also called on government to do more in providing enabling environment for women through empowerment.
