The police in Lagos State have arrested one Segun Titilayo, 29, for allegedly killing his girlfriend.

The suspect who resides in Otolu Town in Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA) allegedly lured his girlfriend, Oritike Manni, 26, to his house where he killed and buried her body in a shallow grave at a construction site.

The police said the deceased, a bar attendant at a hotel in Apakin Town, Lekki, had been declared missing for some time.

Giving account of what transpired between the lovers, the Lagos police spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said investigation revealed that the suspect called the deceased on phone on October 13, 2020, and invited her to his house and that thereafter all efforts to trace her proved abortive.

Adejobi said the police subsequently recorded a case of a missing person for Oritike and that a message on the case was circulated to all police formations across the state for search and rescue.

He explained that, “On November 7, 2020, one Engineer Adegbago David of Adron Homes and Properties reported at the police station in Akodo Area, Lagos State, that while the company was excavating at its site in Otolu Town their caterpillar exhumed a decomposing corpse. Police detectives swung into action and the corpse was identified by the staff of the hotel to be that of Oritoke and the corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.

“The police then started a manhunt for the suspect and he was arrested. He is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, and is giving useful information to help the police in their investigation.”

Condemning the act, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, Yetunde Longe, to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.
