Lookman, Iheanacho, Ejuke secure first victories in new season

The Super Eagles trio of Ademola Lookman, Kelechi Iheancho and Chidera Ejuke played crucial roles for their respective clubs to secure their first victories in the current season.

While Lookman shone brightly for Atalanta in the 3-1 home win over Fiorentina in the Serie A, the duo of Iheanacho were in the Sevilla team that edged Getafe 1-0 away in LaLiga.

Ademola Lookman a leading candidate for the African Football of the Year Award and Ballon d’Or nominee, scored the winning goal and also provided an assist for Atalanta in the comeback win over to Fiorentina.

It was a much-needed win for the UEFA Europa League holders after they lost their previous two games – 2-1 at Torino and 4-0 at champions Inter Milan.

Atalanta fell behind at home after just 15 minutes, before they drew level six minutes later with the Super Eagles forward providing the assist.

Lookman scored what proved to be the match winner in first half stoppage time after he sprinted into the box from the left, drew his marker with him and took the entire defence by surprise by slotting home also from the left for his first goal in his first start of the new season.

In the LaLiga, Ejuke with his trademark dashing runs, kept the Getafe defence busy throughout the 67 minutes he spent on the field.

However, his compatriot, Iheanacho, who joined from Premiership side, Leicester City on the last day of recently closed transfer window was an unused sub as he watched on from the bench.
