Nigerian international, Barnabas Nanen Imenger Jnr, was the hero as he netted a brace as Lobi Stars edged hard fighting FC Basira 2-1 in a pre-season friendly match played yesterday in Lafia.

Having signed over a dozen new players for the upcoming football season, Lobi Stars are blending the old and new players in friendly matches that have been lined up by the Vice-chairman of the club, Dominic Iorfa.

In one of such friendly matches, Lobi Stars overpowered resilient Gboko Selected 1-0 with new boy Umar Abba, a former Katsina United striker scoring the only goal of the match played at the famous JS Tarka stadium Gboko.

Lobi Stars then humbled VanTown FC 2-1 after Umar Abba and former Rivers United and Plateau United star, Bernard Ovoke scored a goal each in the second half of the highly entertaining fixture at Vandeikya township stadium.

It was in continuation of their preparations for the 2023 NPFL season that Lobi Stars travelled to neighbouring Lafia town where they traded tackles with Nationwide League One side, FC Basira.

Although the first half ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts who drew the first blood in the 17th minute, the more experienced Lobi Stars fought back to win 2-1 courtesy of Imenger jnr’s brace in the 51st and 84th minute.

Lobi Stars are among the NPFL clubs that will be featuring in this year’s Unity Pre-season tournament billed to commence on October 22 in Abuja.
