There’s currently leadership crisis at the Bauchi State House of Assembly following the nullification of the election of Speaker and the Deputy Speaker by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Daily Trust reports that the appellate court had Friday sacked the Speaker Abubakar Y Suleiman and ordered a rerun in his constituency, Ningi Central.
On Tuesday, the court also sacked the Deputy Speaker, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru, and equally ordered rerun in Bauchi Central State constituency.
When contacted, Chairman of the Bauchi House of Assembly Committee on Information, Hon Musa Wakili Nakwada, said, “As lawmakers, we will not do anything but we will follow the procedures and the real thing that is supposed to be done by the Law and the Constitution.”
When asked whether they will elect new speaker and deputy speaker, Nakwada said, “I tell you we will follow all the procedures that is been laid down, if the procedures said so, we will do so and if the procedures did not say so we will not do so. We will do what the law say and what the constitution says and we are going to do the right thing.”
