The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has ordered the detention of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) along with four others for their alleged involvement in the shooting incident that led to the death of a female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.

The lawyer was allegedly shot dead by a drunken trigger happy ASP in the Ajah area of the state on Christmas day.

The deceased, her sister and two others had gone to an eatery in the area and were heading home when the shooting occurred.

Abiodun Alabi, who expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem, said the errant officer had since been taken into custody alongside his team members.

A statement issued on Monday by the State Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the CP had also directed that the case be transferred to the homicide unit of the State Criminal and Investigation Department, Yaba for in-depth investigation.

Hundeyin said it has become one too many such incidents, especially bearing in mind that a similar one occurred at the same location less than three weeks ago.

He said the condemnable incident is against the standard operating procedures (SOP) and rules of engagement of the force.

“Beyond this incident, the Nigeria Police Force will carry out a reappraisal of its rules of engagement in a bid to put an end to such avoidable, ugly incidents.

“The Lagos State Police Command hereby appeals to the good people and residents of Lagos State to remain calm as the command is already in constant touch with the Nigerian Bar Association and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring that justice totally prevails,” he added.

It was earlier gathered that the incident threw the community into confusion as the suspected policeman and his team fled the scene immediately.

City & Crime further gathered that the officer, was, however, caught and detained by operatives of the Ajah police division.
