The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State is endemic for child trafficking.
NAPTIP Zonal Coordinator, Oshogbo Command, Saadu Mustapha Ajara, said this at Lafiagi during a sensitization programme on the menace and impact of child trafficking held at the emir’s palace.

The event was jointly organized by the European Union-funded Network of Civil Society against Child Trafficking Abuse and Labour, the Action Against Trafficking in-Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (A-TIPSOM) and FIIAP, a Spanish Government foundation-based in Nigeria.
Ajara said recent cases received at the zonal office, which also oversees Kwara, Ondo and Ekiti, showed that Edu was endemic on the issue of human and child trafficking in Kwara State which prompted the sensitisation with the support of other partners.
He said NAPTIP expected a highly reduced record on the issue with the sensitization which should be consistent so as to create enough awareness about the dangers of the problem.
State Coordinator for NACTAL, Oyedeji Olufemi, said the event was to support the government of Nigeria to reduce human and child trafficking in the country.
Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Afusat Ibrahim, said: “We chose Edu Local Government in Kwara North because it is one of the places with the prevalence of human trafficking in the society and we are most grateful to all the partners for their intervention.”
