The People’s Democratic Party in Kogi has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of “double standards” after the regulator declared voting in Osun inconclusive.
INEC cited the 353-vote margin between the two highest contenders PDP and APC being less the 3,498 votes expected from seven polling units where it slated September 27 for a rerun.
PDP secretary in Kogi, Bode Ogunmola, criticised INEC for failing to apply the same provision when similar situation played out during the August 11 Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency bye-election when the APC was declared winner.
Ogunmola described the Osun governorship election scenario as same with what obtained in the Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency Bye election that held in August, but said INEC looked the other way and went ahead to announce the result then.
Ogunmola urged the INEC to know that the world is watching its activities, pointing out that it would be difficult for it “to hide behind a finger, as it has shown symptoms of been biased.”
The PDP urged the party in Osun state to remain focused even in the midst of the attempt to manipulate its victory, described the declaration of the election as inconclusive as a “postponement of the evil day by the APC.”
The PDP in Kogi state described the change mantra and anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari led APC as a “scam”, having failed the minimum requirements over time.
