Kidnappers have shot and injured a commercial driver, Abdullahi Abubakar, and abducted a woman and her three-year-old son on Monday evening on Ugya-Umaisha road in Toto Local Government Council of Nasarawa State.

Abubakar, while narrating the incident at the hospital on Tuesday, said the incident happened around 4:45 pm while he was conveying a woman and her son from Toto to Umaisha.

He said the kidnappers, who were armed to teeth, numbering over 20, suddenly appeared on the road and opened fire on his car.

He said a bullet scratch his head and his car suddenly somersaulted into the bush.

“It was one of the bullets that scratched my head after they opened fire on my vehicle.

“I suddenly lost control and veered off into the bush, before they now came and whisked away the woman and her child,” he said.

He said the kidnappers spared him in a pool of his blood after they thought that he was dead.

Another driver, Zakari Musa, who escaped the attack, also said the kidnappers opened fire and shattered the back windscreen of his station wagon Golf car, with registration number ST 495 AAA.

He said he was conveying a soldier in mufti and some passengers from Abaji to Umaisha when he rammed into the kidnappers, saying a bullet shot by the kidnappers scratched the soldier on the neck.

“In fact, it was only God that saved me, the soldier and my passengers because they shot at my car from the back and shattered the back windscreen,” he said.

The head of the information unit of Toto Local Government Council, Mr Hagai Daniel, confirmed the incident through a telephone interview with our reporter.

The spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, ASP Ramhan Nansel, was yet to pick calls or reply to text message to him to confirm the incident.
