The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, says the Kano Emirate is still oblivious of the reasons behind the blockade of the Gidan Rumfa Palace last week by security operatives.
Last week, the palace entrance was sealed by officers of the Police and Department of State Services (DSS), disrupting movement in and out of the premises. While no official explanation was provided by the authorities, sources linked the incident to the planned installation of Munir Sanusi as the new district head of Bichi.
Speaking on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from Bichi, Emir Sanusi II assured the people that the appointment of their district head would proceed as planned.
“This incident is merely a distraction. We still don’t know the reasons behind it, and those responsible have yet to provide any clarification. However, this will not stop anything.

“I assure you that another day will be fixed, and your district head will surely be brought to you. Everything will happen peacefully,” the emir said.
The emir also urged the people of Bichi to remain calm and maintain their reputation for peace. Reflecting on his personal connection to the town, he described Bichi as a second home where he spent much of his childhood vacations.
The delegation from Bichi led by the local government chairman, Hamza Sule Maifata included the Chief Imam, Mallam Lawan Abubakar and the Chairman of the Elders’ Forum, Mallam Isyaka Bichi.
