Women constitute 50 per cent of Nigeria’s population and cannot be ignored, the first female chairman of First Bank Nigeria and Chief Executive Officer of The Chair Centre Group, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, has said.

Awosika said this at an International Women’s Day (IWD) event organised by CHI Limited, a member of the Coca-Cola family in Lagos, the company said in a statement.

She noted that equity is about evaluating what each person needs to succeed at their best, adding that women represent about 50% of Nigeria’s population and undermining them will be detrimental to society.

Awosika also charged women to identify their limitations, close the gap, take ownership of their careers, and value their journey.

Speaking on the theme #EmbraceEquity, the Human Resources Director at CHI Limited, Temitope Adedayo-Ojo, said the company is committed to driving diversity and inclusion through gender equity at the workplace.

She then unveiled the Women’s Network at Chi Limited, GREAT Rubies, to highlight the values that women at CHI Limited represent.
