Olurode spoke during an interaction with newsmen, organised by Osun State chapter of Association of Veteran Journalists.
The INEC chief said the commission was collating opinions from stakeholders and that it would do what it considers best for the country.
He regretted the criticism trailing creation of additional polling units, saying INEC’s initial plan was to make ensure that voters do not encounter difficulties during elections.
He said: “We are aware of the criticism on the creation of the 30,000 additional polling units. We don’t want anything that would tarnish our reputation. The intention was good and it was meant to reduce the stress people go through during the elections. We took the step when we realised that certain polling units had as many as 3,000 voters and we felt that such would amount to wasting time at polling centres on the day of election.”
On the deployment of security agents during elections, Olurode said Nigeria is not ripe enough to hold elections without adequate security measure, adding that it was necessary to increase the involvement of security in election.
Olurode urged members of the public to support and encourage INEC and security agencies.
