A politician has asked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmud Yakubu, to take a critical review of the results of the election declared by the returning officer in Plateau Central Senatorial zone.

Hon. Golkuna Gotom, the senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who made the call in Jos yesterday, said the call has become necessary in view of the alleged fraud perpetrated in the declaration of winner of the election.

Gotom said, “Here was a National Assembly election held on the 25th of February, but INEC held on the results for nine weeks only to come and announce a result that does not reflect the votes cast by the electorates.

“I urged the INEC national chairman Prof Yakubu Mahmud to do a critical review of the election results and he will discover the returning officer declared a wrong winner.

“The APC candidate was declared winner because the votes earlier cancelled by the returning officer in Kanam Local Government Area was later added to the votes of APC to ensure they come up with the highest votes.”

He explained that adding up votes already cancelled by the local government returning officer is an abuse of Section 149 Electoral Act.
