The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and Publisher, Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has said that he was allocated 33,000 votes by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2019 election.

Sowore said that he challenged the result when he was arraigned, claiming that the election was not fair.

He said, “For those of us who have been around for so long, marks his 32 years experience fighting for democracy and consolidating it, I will make sure that the people of Nigeria are not short-changed in the course of being citizens of this country.

“My slogan has not changed but evolved because of the dynamics of political situation in Nigeria. We have got to the point where we are impacted that we cannot continue like this.

“I was allocated 33,000 votes by INEC. I said it when I was arrested and arraigned that I didn’t believe that the election was legit. Even though I was not evolved in election litigation matters, the litigation of that election showed the underbelly of it wasn’t legit election. You know there is a court of law and court of justice; there was no justice in that pronouncement.”

Sowore noted that if the 2023 election is compromised, Nigerians should be ready for the consequences.

He added, “There is no way you can calculate the number of votes you got if your votes were passed through a basket that has no credibility. You cannot be imagining this is the number of votes when processes for voting, counting and announcing results are compromised. That was what 2019 was about. We hope 2023 will be different. If not, we better be ready for the consequences. This is not a threat.”
