EFCC to appeal ruling absolving Ex-Gov Jang of N6.3bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it will appeal the ruling of Justice C.L Dabup of the Plateau State High Court discharging and acquitting a former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, and a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Pam.
The spokesman for the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, told Daily Trust that the anti-graft agency had begun the process for an appeal with immediate effect in the alleged fraud case against the two public officials.
Daily Trust had reported that the duo were discharged and acquitted by the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos on Friday on a 17-count charges bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of Plateau State funds to the tune of N6.3 billion.

Among the charges were the alleged diversion of N2 billion provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for empowering youths and women on small and medium scale enterprises and misappropriation/diversion of funds meant for the State Universal basic education (SUBEB).

The court then squashed all the charges labelled against the former Governor and the government cashier, saying that it lacked merit.
