Illegal mining: Police nab 8 with three trucks of marble in Kwara

The police in Kwara State have arrested eight suspected illegal miners with three truckloads of marble around Share, Tsaragi and Patigi communities in the state.

The suspects are Abdulbaqi Sadiq, Isah Amisu, Mohammed Zanihat Idris, Alhassan Rabiu, Mohammed Abdulbaqi, Ibrahim Sule Balarabe, Mohammed Dalhatu Idris and Abubakar Tasiu.

It gave the registration numbers of the trucks as SGM 222 ZR, GBE 347ZE and BWR 151 YL.

According to the police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, their arrest followed a petition by locals in conjunction with licensed miners of their activities, which is causing ecological problems and sabotage to the economy of both the state and the federal government.

He said exhibits have been recovered while the suspects after interrogation will be charged to court.
