The Borno State capital, Maiduguri have recently been a target by the Boko Haram sect. The sect began terrorism in 2009 and have been terrorizing the Northeastern states, especially Borno.
In an attempt to capture the state, the terrorists have attacked and captured more than 10 local governments during the Jonathan-Sambo administration. However, the military had in 2017 and 2019 recaptured these local governments except Marte, recaptured in February this year and Kukuwa in late 2020.

Recently, the terrorists have attempted to gain entry into the state capital. On Tuesday 11th May, the terrorists launched an attack on Molai and Jiddari Polo of the Maiduguri metropolis. This attack left many injured and houses set ablaze.
This attack came barely two months after Adam Kolo, Kaleri and Gwange wards of the Maiduguri Metropolis were fatally attacked. This attack left not fewer than nine deaths and many sustained fatal injuries.
Perhaps the Adam Kolo-Kaleri-Gwange attack was in response to the military’s action on one of the terrorists’ strongholds, Marte a week to the attack.
Will Borno see normalcy anytime soon? Will it see another moment it is proudly called the home of peace?
