Imo State police command says it lost one officer in the Saturday attack on one of its divisional headquarters at Umuelemai in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

The command, therefore, warned perpetrators to stop the wanton burning of police facilities in the state.

The spokesman of the command, Orlando Ikeokwu, in a statement on Monday, said; “on the 20/03/21, at about 18.30 hours, hoodlums whose number could not be ascertained, attacked the Divisional Police Hqrs, Isiala Mbano, shooting sporadically.”

He said that operatives of the division successfully repelled them, adding that after the encounter, it was discovered that the hoodlums destroyed some doors and windows.

The PPRO however, said that no arm was taken away.

He regretted that one Inspector, who was on duty at the time of the attack, was fatally wounded and died hours later while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nasiru Mohammed, has visited the station to evaluate the extent of damages done.

While decrying the spate of attack on police formations in the state, Mohammed said the attack in the division is “barbaric”.

He further encouraged officers to brace up with the challenge and ensure policing activities continues in the area.
