The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has received a donation of dialysis consumables worth N1 million from the Kidney Care and Transplant Foundation.
Receiving the donation, AKTH acting Chief Medical Director, Professor Idris A. Sulaiman, stated that the gesture by the foundation will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the patients who require dialysis, adding that dialysis is a highly cost-intensive intervention for patients that have kidney disease.
He explained that the cost of dialysis is very expensive and not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and as such, patients have to pay from their own pockets.
According to him, the donation will help a lot of kidney disease patients hence, the need for other establishments to emulate the foundation’s gesture.

In his address, chairman of the foundation Architect Ibrahim Haruna revealed that the foundation has realized that kidney disease was a very expensive sickness to manage, adding that the foundation has decided to make it open to allow others to leverage on the opportunity of rendering a helping hand in saving lives.
