A 25-year-old tailor, Murtala Hassan of Barikin-Sale area of Minna, Niger State capital, has been killed by hoodlums at his friend’s wedding where he was serving as groom’s best man.
Residents said the deceased was stabbed to death while trying to separate a fight between two rival groups during the wedding ceremony around 10pm on Sunday.
One of the sources, who did not want his name mentioned, said the fight between the two rival groups in Barikin-Sale had lingered for long.
When contacted, the spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, SP WasiuAbiodun, confirmed the incident.
Abiodun said “On 29/12/2024 at about 2300hrs, information was received that some miscreants engaged in a fight at Barikin-Sale area of Minna during an occasion and as a result, one Murtala Hassan 25yrs was stabbed dead at the back during an effort to separate the miscreants.
“Police operatives attached to Kpakungu Div. moved to the scene, evacuated the corpse and one Ali Sale of the same area was arrested in connection to the crime. Investigation is ongoing and efforts to arrest others are ongoing.”
