Heartland Queens dare Amazons in NWFL Premiership matchup

In the NWFL Premiership matchday 2 on Wednesday at Lafia City Stadium, the high-flying Heartland Queens will have their hands full against the Nasarawa Amazons, the reigning champions.

Prior to the historic and first-ever top-flight meeting, the Owerri mainstreams defeated the Oil City of Warri’s Royal Queens with four unanswered goals, while the Lafia-based side ran away with an emphatic 3-2 win at Naija Ratels to pave the way for Wednesday’s evenly matched dugout.

The Owerri side’s gaffer, Obi Ogbala, who had his best record there in Lafia, along with Uchenna Chukwu and Chimebere Opara, seem to have the form books to undo their lucky hosts.

Coach Ogbala is expected to stick with the lineups that made him proud in the four-goal thrashing of Royal Queens, or at the very least, the majority of the successful squad will consistently keep their shirts.

Lucky Mary, the Owerri Landladies all-time top scorer, will be leading the attack alongside Opara and Onyinyechi Kalu, who scored a goal in the previous game.

The midfield will be controlled by the effective trio of Oluchi Okwara, Sampson Faith, and Chidinma Anaele. And in defense, they have tough players like Kelechi Orgii, Onyedikachi Ekezie, Ekaette Akpata, and Chinyere Iheoma. Uchenna Chukwu, the goalkeeper, had an impressive debut with a clean sheet against the Warri side.

Victory for Heartland Queens in Lafia will help them to consolidate on their firm grip and leadership hold on the group’s log.
