Over 30,000 Arabic books have been distributed to Madrasats (Arabic Schools) within the Ilorin Emirate as part of activities commemorating the 24th coronation anniversary of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The ceremony held yesterday and which featured the distribution of the books, was at the instance of Ilorin Emirate Integrity Youth Vanguard (IEIYV) titled: “Annual Kitab Empowerment.”
Beneficiaries of the free Arabic books were schools, which hitherto used slates to impart knowledge on their students (elementary) and post-elementary Arabic schools, all domiciled in Ilorin.
Speaking at the event held at the frontage of the palace of Emir of Ilorin, IEIYV National President, Abdulsalam Sheriffdeen Alaburo, said the event was unique in the history of the Emirate, adding that the Emir also attested to it.
He disclosed that the production of Arabic books was first of its kind for the use of students in elementary and post-elementary Arabic schools.
The IEIYV President recalled that the Emirate in over two decades had witnessed tremendous growth and development, saying that the people of the ancient city would continue to appreciate the role of the monarch in sustaining peace in the community.
“We hold this programme to mark the 24th coronation anniversary of our royal father. We pray Almighty Allah to give him longevity of life and quality health.
“In our annual programmes, we have never had this type of event. We are the first Emirate group to have produced Arabic books in large quantity like this for those in elementary and post-elementary Arabic schools, especially those that hitherto used slates. Now, they can use comprehensive Arabic books
“We also procured board markers and markers for distribution to them free. We also hold free medical check up and free drugs and we thank Almighty Allah for the support we got from eminent indigenes of Ilorin for the success of this event”, Alaburo said.
At the event, a renowned Islamic cleric, Abubakar Solaty Otte, delivered a lecture on the topic “Educating Our Young Ones Towards Development of Our Cultural Heritage”.
