Magdala Unity Foundation has organized a one-day sensitization programme on the elimination of gender-based violence in the Karon Majigi Kuchingoro community in Abuja.

Scores of women, men and children attended the programme which was held at the palace of the District head of Karon Majigi Kuchingoro, HRH Yunusa Bako Abdullahi, on Thursday.

Part of the programme was to sensitize women on the danger of gender-based violence and how it affects individuals in society.

The participants of the event were taken through some tips on how to protect themselves and report gender-based violence cases where necessary.

Speaking, the president, Magdala Unity Foundation, Victoria Bola Ihesiulor, said that Gender-based violence is a pervasive form of injustice that strikes at the very core of our humanity, saying it shatters families, fractures communities, and leaves in its wake a trail of suffering and despair.

She said, “This is a problem that requires the collective effort of every member of our community. For too long, the burden of addressing this issue has fallen disproportionately on the shoulders of women and girls. But let us be clear this is not just a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue, and it demands a concerted response from all of us.”

“We must challenge the notion that violence is an inevitable part of life -that it is somehow ingrained in our culture or our DNA. We must reject the false dichotomy that pits one gender against another, for in truth, we are all in this together.

“We must sow the seeds of love, compassion, and understanding in our community, for it is only through acts of kindness and empathy that we can hope to create a world free from violence and oppression.”

Also speaking at the event, the District head of Karon Majigi Kuchingoro, represented by Musa Abubakar Idemia Onoba of Ebira of Karon Majigi, commended the foundation for choosing the community for the programme.

He said, “The programme will enlighten housewives and children on the mistakes they have been making in marital and societal relationships and how to correct them.”
