The club of a hotel in the Mpape of Abuja, New Standard Hotel, has been gutted by fire following an explosion, with property worth millions of naira destroyed.

A witness, Mummy Ifeanyi, explained that the fire erupted during the early hours of the morning following a loud explosion from the club area.

Papa Abdul, who lives near the hotel, said he suspected that a faulty freezer compressor could have triggered the explosion. He also said the sound did not come from the room where the freezer was kept, but from the club itself.

The owner of the hotel said, “We can’t leave this place like this. Leaving it unattended would result in further losses. We must manage this situation and ensure the wellbeing of our guests and the future of our business.”
