Fire guts Kano”s Sabon Gari market

Many shops  and properties worth millions of naira have been  destroyed at Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi market following a fire outbreak.

The fire according a trader, Auwal Yusuf started at about 11pm on Friday and consumed many shops around the shoes, chemical and provisions sections of the market.

When this reporter visited the market around 6am today, the fire officials were still battling with the inferno as it continues escalating to other sections.

Fire fighting vehicles from private companies have been deployed to the market to join the state fire service officials in quenching the fire.

Traders were seen evacuating the remains of their items and goods that have not been affected by the fire.

Daily Trust on Saturday observed that many shops have been destroyed by the fire.

Security was beefed up in and around the market to prevent hoodlums from looting traders’ properties.

Policemen, civil defense personel and members of vigilante group were stationed at various entrances to the market.
