Edo trains 1,500 vigilantes, hunters

The Edo State Security Vigilante Network (ESSVN) has trained 1,500 operatives as part of efforts to fight crime and criminality in the state.

Addressing journalists at the Police Training School in Ogida Barracks, the Coordinator of ESSVN, Col Kole Omomia (Rtd), said, “We are having 1,500 vigilantes and hunters on training here today, and they are the fourth batch being trained, and they are from Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs.

“So, far, we have trained 5,074 vigilantes and hunters. The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration is trying to achieve a secure and peaceful environment with a friendly atmosphere to encourage investors into the state, ensuring lives and property are secured and safe.”

On his part, the Director of Operation of ESSVN, David Olukonga, said the aim of the training was to ensure a secured state, especially as the yuletide season approached.
