The Vice President of Nigeria Schools Sports Federation, Mr Emmanuel Ebong, has called on sponsors of school sports to ensure that children are encouraged to combine sports with education.

He made this known in an interview at the ongoing cadet athletics championship being sponsored by a telecom firm in Calabar.

Ebong said, “We should preach to our budding sporting children that they must marry sports and education for a better tomorrow.

“This is because at a certain point in life, they will no longer be active or reliant on the benefits from sports.  It is at this point that what they studied in their schools will come up handy.

“They will not become liabilities to their families and society.”

Ebong said this is part of the sports development approach that his federation has focused on.

He stated that if the children are not engaged now positively in their sporting endeavours and education, “They will find something negative to engage themselves later in life.”
