Customs arrests 11 with military camo, fuel, others

The Federal Operations Unit, Zond A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Wednesday, said it arrested 11 suspects for their alleged involvement in the smuggling of military wears, petrol and rice into the country from Benin Republic.

Briefing newsmen on the activities of the unit in January, 2023, acting Controller in charge of FOU Zone A, Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu, gave the quantity of the petrol seized as 47,750 litres; which is equivalent to a truck.

Ejibunu identified other seizures as 314 pieces of used tyres, 11 units of used motorcycles, 13 units of used vehicles and 450x106kg drums of carbide.

He said, “The 11 suspects were arrested in connection with some of the military camouflage. Considering the spate of insecurity across the country, and the upcoming general elections; it can be postulated that the importation of Indian hemp and military camouflage could be used to fuel crime and electoral violence by unpatriotic elements.”
