Creation of more states, not necessary -IBB

General Babangida, who stated this in Hadejia Local Government, Jigawa, for the celebration celebration of the annual Eid-el-Maulud, explained that the existing 36 states were enough to develop Nigeria, noting that, what Nigerians should do was to put their heads together and develop the existing states we have.

Talking from experience, he noted that the creation of additional states would not augur well for this country. “I doubt if those agitating for new states can fulfil the requirements stipulated by our constitution,” he said.

He further stated that the task before Nigerians now was to bail out the country from the current economic crisis, adding that, all hands should be on deck to address this problem if Nigerians were concerned about the progress of the nation.

He cited example with  Jigawa State, which he said was created about 20 years ago, saying, the state was  on the track of purpose and objective for its creation.

“Whoever knew the level of development in the areas that made up of Jigawa State, will attests that, lots of developments were recorded in both urban and rural communities. The present administration of the state has done a lot, Babangida said.
