The Kwara State Police Command has said a suspected kidnapper, Aliyu Yakubu, has been remanded at the federal correctional centre by a magistrate court in Ilorin over offences bordering on aiding and abating kidnapping Adegboyega Onijala.

Adegboyega, a brother to Ambassador Olutola Onijala, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan and a former gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, was kidnapped by gunmen in his white Hilux van while returning from his farm at Olla in November.

According to the police report, the suspect, along with others, is connected to the high profile kidnapping of Adegboyega.

The report read in part, “Yakubu and his cohorts were also responsible for the kidnapping incidents at Olla, Oko, Idofin-igbana and Oro-Ago communities.”

The Police alleged that during an investigation, it was revealed that Yakubu criminally conspired with others now at large to aid or abet the kidnapping of Adegboyega.

Yakubu, however, denied his involvement in the alleged offences levelled against him, describing it as a set up by his adversaries.

The Prosecutor, Adewunmi Johnson, sought his remand while the Magistrate, Fatimah Salihu, who presided over the matter, ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned the matter till May 11th, 2022 for further mention.
