The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has failed to submit the procurement audit reports of over 900 federal government agencies under its purview, a House of Representatives committee has alleged.

BPP is said to have submitted the audit report of only 32 out of more than 1000 agencies in years.

The House Committee on Public Procurement headed by Rep. Nasir Ahmed derided the BPP for not presenting the Procurement Audit reports annually for years despite the funds being allocated for the exercise in its budgets.

The committee discovered the anomaly during the 2020 budget performance presentation and the 2021 budget proposal by the director-general of BPP, Mamman Ahmadu and management team on Thursday.

It was learnt by that the BPP submitted the audit reports for 2015 and 2016 while the reports for 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 were not submitted as required by.

The lawmaker who raised the issue, Rep. Uju Kingsley citing Section 5 (b) of the Procurement Act 2007 said what the BPP did was a gross violation of the Act and the Finance Act.

The committee therefore demanded explanation on the alleged failure to submit the reports and other anomalies discovered during the presentation.

Presenting the details of the BPP 2020 budget implementation, the DG stated that, N1.434 billion was approved for the agency.

He said, out of the amount, N250.4 million was for Capital, N750.5 million for Overhead while N484.2 million was allocated for Personnel Cost.

He however disclosed that, the budget was revised down wards to N1.424 billion because of the COVID-19 impact on the economy.
