Armed robbers have devised a means of trailing and snatching money from people, especially those coming out from banks in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

Some victims of the attack are journalists and include secretary of NUJ, Sunday John and the Editor-In-Chief of a community newspaper, Eggon News, Mathew Kuju.

The NUJ state secretary lost N250,000, while the editor in chief of Eggon News, lost N800,000 within a week.

Sunday John said, ” I was trailed from a bank along Jos road and robbed at the NUJ press centre. I parked, joined a meeting, when I went to pick the money, I discovered that the glass was broken and the money stolen,” he said.

While the Editor of Eggon News said, “I was trailed from a new generation bank and robbed in my office in Bukan Sidi area of Lafia.”

He said he packed his car and went into the office to pick something. When he came out, he saw the armed robber with the money bag running to enter a waiting vehicle on the other side of the express road.

Similarly, a week ago, a business man who withdrew N700,000 from a bank in Lafia was robbed on Doma road, inside Lafia town.

A witness said that the syndicate drove past their victim at high speed, blocked him and pointed guns at him, collected the money and drove off.

Police spokesman, ASP Ranham Nansel confirmed the incidents and said the Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe has directed his deputy in charge of operations to convene a meeting next week with bank managers to find a lasting solution to the menace.

He assured that they are on the trail of the syndicate.
