A-yet-to-be-identified gunmen early Tuesday morning attacked Iwollo Oghe Police Station in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, razing parts of the station as well as killing some police operatives on duty.
Daily Trust recalls that a few weeks ago, Adani Police State in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state was also burnt by unidentified armed men.
Our reporter gathered that at least five persons among whom were police operatives were said to have been killed in the attack during which the police formation was torched including most of the vehicles and other property within the premises.
Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mr. Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, led members of the management team and Operational/Tactical Commanders to Iwollo Police Division for an on-the-spot assessment.
In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon by the state police spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, the CP, Aliyu was quoted to have ordered immediate intensive discreet investigation to fish out perpetrators and make them face the law.
According to Ndukwe, “The hoodlums, who came to the station in their numbers, opened fire on police operatives on duty, but were gallantly resisted and in the ensuing gun duel, several of the assailants escaped with bullet injuries.
“Unfortunately, four of the operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while some parts of the station was set ablaze by the assailants.”
