grassroots socio-economic empowerment to focus more attention to financial co-operatives in terms of grants and micro credit access to improve their contributions to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The groups at the opening of a two-day Cooperative Career Conference with the theme: Cooperative Enterprise, Achieving Sustainable Development For All, held Thursday in Abuja, noted that with the increasing financial management trainings provided to cooperative societies and other micro enterprises, women were now more knowledgeable in financial management and should get more attention in micro finance interventions.
The secretary of ANMFIN Godbless Safugha while speaking at the venue of the event said the conference was organised to mark the International Day of Co-operatives marked globally on first Saturday of July of each year.
“Cooperative societies have a big role to play in national economic development and therefore should be provided the enabling environment to contribute to current drives towards empowering the vulnerable groups, especially through financial co-operatives, to reduce the unemployment rate and poverty level in the country” he said.
