A/Ibom youth group kicks against violation of local content law, insurgency

Pepple spoke in reaction to the recent groundbreaking ceremony

An Akwa Ibom youth group has kicked against the violation of the Local Content Law  by companies operating in the state and against insurgency.

The group, Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND), warned the company in charge of the new petrochemical and fertilizer factory in the state against flouting the operational laws guiding the activities of companies operating in the state.

The National Organising Secretary of MOSIEND, Comrade Dimieari Pepple, on behalf of other members, alleged that some companies make use of divide-and-rule tactics in their operations in communities, which violates the Local Content Law.

Pepple spoke in reaction to the recent groundbreaking ceremony of a multi-billion dollar petrochemical and fertilizer company in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.

The ceremony, which was jointly performed by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, would cover the four communities of Okoroinyong, Obianga, Egwenwe and Ikonta in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.

Pepple, who expressed hope that the company will not thwart Governor Emmanuel’s good intentions in bringing development to the state, said he hoped it will provide employment to the teeming unemployed youths in the area.

He lauded the governor for creating a peaceful and harmonious environment for multinational companies and foreign investors  to operate in the state.

Pepple condemned the recent killings and burning of police stations in the state, saying the group will continue to support the government in its efforts in tackling security challenges and the maintenance of peace.

He kicked against insurgency and its sponsors, saying Akwa Ibom people will not tolerate a situation where groups and individuals want to use the state to launch their secessionist agenda.

He stated that the people of the state believe in one Nigeria and true federal structure as enshrined in the 1963 constitution.

“We enjoin all Akwa Ibom youths to preserve the peace the state is noted for,’’ he said.
