Gunmen believed to be hired assassins reportedly abducted and later killed a 36-year-old man, Godwin Agzegbu, nephew to Dr. Justina kotso, rector of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia.

The unfortunate incident happened on Thursday evening at about 6:30 pm when Agzegbu stepped out to buy something from town.

He returned in the afternoon for lunch, then went out in the evening and never returned, Daily Trust has learnt.

A relative residing in Akuruba area of Lafia Local Government Area of the state was passing by when he saw Agzegbu’s car parked along “C Division” and Air Force temporary barracks.

His body was discovered under the printed programme of events using during the burial of his aunt.

The relative reported to the family before police arrived the scene to retrieve the body to be deposited in the mortuary at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.

A source in the family says the 36-year-old architect was ambushed on an errand, taken to a different location and then killed.

The source said Agzegbu did not habitually stay out beyond 7pm. The family spent the entire night of his death waiting up for him. They learnt of his death the next day.

“He couldn’t return home as usual and they never set their eyes on him again not until the shocking news of his death was broken to us one of our relatives before the police who traced the resident of the deceased came to invite the family to come and identify the lifeless body,” the source added.

Another source in the family explained how the body was found: in a pool of blood beside his car, his throat slit.

His abductors dumped his body on farmland belonging to the former Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Timothy Anjide family. His car had several bullet holes.

It has also been learnt that before the incident, the polytechnic rector had called an emergency security meeting of all heads of department with a police investigation team.
