Armed men on Thursday stormed Ode Irele in Ondo state where a daylight robbery operation was carried out at a branch of Union Bank.
Eyewitness said the bandits numbering nine stormed the bank at about 4.10pm and carted away an undisclosed amount of money from the bank vault, killing one person in the process.
The eyewitness said the robbers gained entrance into the bank, after using explosives suspected to be dynamite to blast open the front door.
The operation was said to have lasted for more than 30 minutes.
The eye witness also said that one person was hit by the robbers bullet at the scene.
The robbers were also said to have shot sporadically to scare people away and make for their escape.
As they were shooting some people were said to have sustained serious injuries while trying to run for safely.
Spokesman for the state Police command, Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the incident.
Ikoro however said he was still waiting for the DPO ( Divisional Police Officer) in the town to give him details.
The operation took place hours after the Inspector-General of Police left the state.
He had visited the state to encourage his men.
