Bauchi domesticates violence prohibition law

The Bauchi State Ministry of Justice said it will commence full implementation of the Gazetted Bauchi State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law in various courts of law across the state.

The State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Bello Kirfi, disclosed this when he received the Gazetted Bauchi State VAPP (VAPP) Law from a non-governmental organization Ikra Foundation for Women and Youth Development in partnership with Fistula Foundation, funded by UNFPA and the Canadian government.

He thanked the partners for their dedication and commitment towards completion of the gazetted VAPP Law in Bauchi State, assuring that the ministry would ensure full implementation of the law in the state.

Kirfi urged the foundation to engage critical stakeholders like security operatives, religious leaders, traditional institutions, local youth groups with a view to reducing violence against women and children in the state to the barest minimum.

Earlier in her remark, Executive Director of Ikra Foundation, Bar Amina Garuba, said her foundation partnered with the state’s Ministry for Justice in concluding the process of gazetting the VAPP Law to address gender gaps.
