The First Lady Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, alongside the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye, and other significant stakeholders, have stressed the importance of developing new strategies and increasing investments to boost women’s advancement to contribute to the nation’s growth.
This appeal was made during the 2024 biennial convention of the National Council for Women’s Societies (NCWS), held in Abuja with the theme: “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”
Representing the First Lady at the convention, Mrs Chioma Hope-Uzodinma, wife of the Imo State governor, underscored the key role women play in driving societal progress and development.
She noted that the convention served as a valuable opportunity for reflection, discussion and planning strategies to further women’s causes across the nation.

She urged all parties – the private sector, civil society and the federal government -to collaborate to support reforms aimed at investing in women.
Mrs. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women Affairs, encouraged women to participate in government programmes that aim to alleviate poverty and boost their economic well-being.
She noted that the new e-market portal would help break down market barriers, allowing Nigerian women better access to funding opportunities and empowerment initiatives to improve their livelihoods.
As part of the convention activities, the NCWS National President Mrs Lami Adamu-Lau distributed empowerment kits and financial allowances to women across the 36 states, helping them support and grow their businesses.
