The Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has recovered 13 stolen transformers belonging to the state government and arrested 137 suspects for various offences.

The Police Commissioner, Zaki Ahmed said yesterday in Uyo that the 137 suspects were arrested for offences such as murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, defilement, child stealing, and cultism among others.

He said the transformers, which were recovered from six of the robbery suspects, were stolen from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Uyo.

He said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad based on a tipoff, adding that eight of the transformers were recovered in Owerri.

The CP stated that 13 other suspects have also been arrested for armed robbery, phone snatching, one chance and assault on innocent citizens.

He urged the people of the state to be more vigilant and make use of the police hotlines in promptly reporting crimes. He added that the command has increased its response capacity and is closer to the people than before.

“I am happy about the progress made so far at the plaza, where a total of 13 suspects were arrested in connection with armed robbery, phone snatching, one chance and assault on innocent citizens.

“In the University of Uyo, normalcy has been restored and tight security emplaced,” he stated.
