5 killed in Tiv, Fulani clash in Taraba

No fewer than five people were killed on Saturday during a clash between Tiv and Fulani in Taraba State.

Sources said the clash occurred at Maraban Azagwa in Maihula area, Bali Local Government Area.

It was learnt that the clash followed the death of a Fulani man at a local beer joint belonging to a Tiv man.

The relations of the Fulani man were said to have accused the Tiv people of being responsible for the killing, resulting in the clash.

Daily Trust gathered that five persons were killed and several others injured from both sides during the clash.

A source said though the area was calm following deployment of the police, the entire area  was deserted.

Contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Taraba State Police Command, DSP Kwache Gambo, confirmed the incident.

She, however, said two persons were killed and some injured, adding that those injured are currently receiving treatment.

She said police operatives had already been deployed and the area is relatively calm now.
