Two teenagers, 3 others nabbed over robbing in Lagos traffic

Five armed robbery suspects including two teenagers have been arrested for allegedly attacking people who were held up in traffic gridlocks in Lagos.

The suspects, according to the police, took advantage of the traffic situation to rob and injure innocent members of the public.

Spokesman of the police in Lagos State, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest said on April 18, at about 10.00pm, a police patrol team on surveillance along Oshodi/Apapa expressway sighted some armed bandits at Toyota Bus Stop, under Daleko bridge, taking advantage of the traffic congestion to rob motorists and other unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables such as laptops, handsets and money.

He said the suspects arrested in the operation were: Daniel Ani, 19; Akinbode Muiz, 17 and Oluwasegun Emmanuel, 24.

He said they confessed to be responsible for traffic robbery along Mushin and environ.

“Two knives and  cutlasses were recovered from the suspects. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will soon be charged to court,” he added.

Elkana further said, in a related development, that on April 19 at about 8.00pm, surveillance patrol team attached to Orile Police Station received a distress call that some traffic robbers were operating at Alafia area along Lagos Badagry expressway.

He said two suspects namely; Olalekan Taoheed, 20 and Adeniyi Okunloye were arrested.

“One Samsung Duos handset stolen from one of the victims was recovered from them. One big sharp cutlass which was used in inflicting injuries on their victims, was recovered from them.

“The suspects confessed to be responsible for traffic robberies along Orile and environs. Investigation is ongoing and suspects will be charged to court,” he said.
