Elections record low turnout in Kebbi State

There is a low turnout of voters for today’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Kebbi State.

Unlike the presidential and National Assembly elections where voters came out en mass in the various polling units in Birnin Kebbi metropolis, few voters were seen queuing up in many of the polling units visited by our correspondent this morning.

Though the presiding officer, Femi Oladun, at Tudun Wada Ward 1 in Baiti area of Birnin Kebbi, said the INEC ad-hoc staff were already out for the election by 6:30 am and people started turning out to vote as early as 8am, the voters’ turnout was not as impressive as it was in the last elections.

At Mai Alelu poling unit where Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is expected to cast his vote, the turnout was low as well compared with the large number of people, particularly women, who came out to vote.

The All Progressives Congress supervisors at some of the 12 polling units in Tudun Wada and Nasarawa ward, confirmed to our correspondent that the turnout, though was not impressive as it was during the last elections, they were optimistic that the voters would still come out in their numbers for the election.
