National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were contracted as Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Ad Hoc staff are returning to their places of primary assignment.
A source at the Bauchi State NYSC office informed our reporter that, the Corps members are returning to their bases.
“Many of our members especially those that were posted to places not far from their places of primary assignments have returned. We are in touch with them and as I speak to you, we are aware of those who returned and those who are on their way,” the source stated.
According to the NYSC source who doesn’t want his identity disclosed, some of the Corps members who are planning to report to the polling stations today because of their closeness to the places remained at their places of primary assignments.
“You know, even if there was no postponement, they will come back after the presidential and the National Assembly elections and then go back for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
“INEC provided transportation for them, and many have not reported to their various places of postings as at yesterday night because they are aware that, sensitive voting materials have not been delivered to those places,” the source added.
A NYSC member, Abdullahi Abdulaziz who was posted to Liman Katagum in Bauchi local government area before the postponement couldn’t find his way to the place on Friday.
The Corps member who was serving in Katagum local government area decided with other colleagues posted to the same area, resolved to find their way early morning Saturday only to learn of the postponement in the night.
According to him, they learnt about the postponement while at the INEC office in Azare where they spent the night.
Abdulaziz said that some corps members earlier had earlier declined their postings to some places out of fear, but they were later given assurance about their safety by INEC and the security agencies.
