About 1429, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Gombe, Borno and Yobe States on Monday began their orientation exercise at the temporary orientation Camp at Amada village, 21 kilometers from the state capital.
The corps members comprising 773, 295 and 361 posted to Gombe, Borno and Yobe states respectively are holding their orientation exercise in Gombe state because of the insurgency in the two states.
The NYSC coordinator in the state, Mr David Pwandi Markson, said at the close of registration last Friday, a total of 1, 429 corps members posted to the three states, were registered for three weeks orientation course.
He said at the end of the three weeks orientation exercise, the 295 and 361 corps members posted to Borno and Yobe respectively would be send to the two states for the one year national service.
Mr Markson said that the NYSC has introduced 12 sets of skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes with the sole aim of equipping corps members to be self-reliance, to stem the tide of unemployment.
He therefore he urged them to take the skills acquisition programme seriously, adding that it is compulsory for every corps member to learn a skill while in the camp.
Declaring the orientation exercise open, the state governor represented by the Commissioner of Trade and Investment, Mr Danjuma Mele, commended the NYSC management for giving priority to skills acquisitions.
He assured the corps members of adequate security of their lives and properties during their one year stay in the state.
